Capture autumn colours, waterfalls & night skies in the Waikato & Bay of Plenty

About the event

Join me as we explore the glorious autumn colours in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty with this weekend photography workshop! I will teach you how to improve your composition, master your camera's settings and learn how different filters will enhance the images you capture. You'll also discover easy Lightroom techniques to turn your original raw files into stunning landscape images.

We will cover an area of New Zealand that is incredibly rich and varied in its landscape offerings. From swirling seascapes to quiet lakes reflecting autumn colours, and lush waterfalls in hidden valleys. This will provide you with a range of opportunities to put all the skills you will learn into practice.

Locations covered: Cambridge - Lake Karapiro - Blue Spring - McLaren Falls Park - Kaiate Falls - Mount Maunganui

Friday 2pm

The workshop will kick off at 2pm at Hidden Lake Hotel with drinks and nibbles and an introduction to the workshop plan.

Friday evening

There will be time to capture the autumn colours around Cambridge during golden hour and sunset and after dark we will head out to shoot astrophotography if the skies are clear.

Saturday morning

We will meet at 6am to capture a local sunrise at Lake Karapiro before heading off to Blue Spring to capture this classic Middle-earth location. A packed breakfast and lunch will be provided by the hotel.

Saturday afternoon

There will plenty of opportunities to capture the autumn colours at McLaren Falls before visiting the beautiful tiered waterfalls at Kaiate Falls and finishing with a sunset at Mount Maunganui.

Saturday evening

If the skies are clear we will find an astrophotography location on the way home to hone our skills from the previous night's session.

Sunday morning

There are plenty of options for a local sunrise within a short drive so we will pick a location based on group preference before heading back to Hidden Lake Hotel for a session on editing in Lightroom. A tasty breakfast will be provided by the hotel.

Sunday 12pm

The workshop officially ends and everyone is free to travel home.
You will leave this workshop with a wealth of new knowledge, exhilarated by the weekend experiences, and keen to try out all the new techniques and tips you have learned.

BONUS: A selection of Sony cameras and lenses will also be available to try during the weekend but you do not have to shoot with Sony gear to benefit from the workshop.
