Sony Digital Imaging Advocates are passionate photo/video educators and community leaders, from across Australia and New Zealand. Sony partners with these remarkable people as part of our mission to foster creativity through image-making beyond the purchase of a camera & lens. By partnering with Sony Digital Imaging Advocates, our goal is to ensure that hobbyists and professionals alike have the opportunity to share in a vibrant local community, allowing them to learn new concepts, develop their skills, and enjoy the company of a like-minded community.

What is the Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Program?
The Advocate Program exists hand-in-hand with the scene.sonyanz.com platform, and together they represent Sony's most important single tool for engaging with photographers in the community post-purchase. As a touch-point for members of the Sony community, Advocates are carefully selected for a combination of photographic skill, educational interest and demonstrated track record in community engagement. Once selected, Advocates work with Sony to publish and run events through the Scene platform, and receive ongoing support from Sony to that end.

Are Sony Digital Imaging Advocates Sony employees?
Advocates are independent contractors and are not directly employed by Sony. Sony provides loan gear, financial incentives, and other forms of support for Advocates, and in turn, Advocates agree to certain terms and conditions while they are part of the program. This arrangement allows Advocates to participate in the program at a level that is appropriate for them, while retaining a necessary degree of flexibility and independence.

What makes a great Sony Digital Imaging Advocate?
The most successful Advocates have a genuine love of spending time with other photographers, and take great pleasure in sharing their knowledge. Photographic skill is of course a requirement, but rarer and therefore often more important in our selection process is a genuine interest and track record with direct community engagement. Community leaders, workshop runners and photography educators make up many of our most successful Advocates today.
