Sony Vlog Challenge 2022 -
Terms of Entry
IMPORTANT: The Sony Vlog Challenge for the Asia Pacific region involves a number of countries (referred to in the Terms of Entry below as a “Qualifying Region”). Australia and New Zealand are (collectively) one of the Qualifying Regions for the Sony Vlog Challenge for the Asia Pacific region. There are two winners for the Sony Vlog Challenge for all of Asia Pacific in each category (1. YouTube; 2. TikTok/Instagram), chosen from entrants across all Qualifying Regions.
Sony Vlog Challenge 2022 - Terms of Entry
Article 1: Sponsor
- The sponsors of the Sony Vlog Challenge 2022 (hereinafter the "Contest") in Australia and New Zealand are Sony Australia Limited of Level 7, 73 Miller St, North Sydney NSW 2060, Australia (for Australian participants) and Sony New Zealand Limited of 100 Ponsonby Road, Auckland 1011 New Zealand (for New Zealand participants) (hereinafter, collectively, "Sony").
- The Contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or otherwise associated with, YouTube (https://www.youtube.com), Instagram (https://www.instagram.com), or TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/). YouTube, Instagram and TikTok shall be totally exempt from all liability by any person entering this Contest.
Article 2: Qualifying Entrants
- The Contest is open to individuals aged 16 and over who are residents in Australia or New Zealand (hereinafter, collectively, the "Qualifying Region".)
- Minors should obtain the consent of their legal representative (a parent or a guardian etc.) before applying for entry.
- No employee of a Sony Group Corporation company (hereinafter "Sony Group Companies"), nor any family member of such an employee, may apply for entry.
Article 3: Contest Period
The Contest shall start on 18 May 2022 and end on 30 June 2022 (hereinafter, the "Contest Period".)
Article 4: Entry Procedures
To enter the Contest, you must complete each of the following steps within the Contest Period:
- Follow the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony) and Sony New Zealand Instagram account (@sonynz).
- Upload your video based on the topic described on the Contest's official website ([please enter the URL of the application requirements]) to YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram.
For YouTube
- Include the hashtag #SonyVlogChallenge2022 and your country/region of residence in the title of the video
- Set the status of your video to public
- Include the URL for your Instagram account, which should be set to public, in the description of your video
For TikTok
- Include the hashtag #SonyVlogChallenge2022 and your country/region of residence in the caption for the video
- Set the status of your video to public
- Link TikTok to your public Instagram Account
For Instagram
- Include the hashtag #SonyVlogChallenge2022 and your country/region of residence in the caption for the video
- Set the status of your video to public
Article 5: Permitted Devices
Any device may be used to take the videos entered into the Contest.
Article 6: Permitted Number of Entries
There is no limit on the number of videos that may be uploaded when applying for entry.
Article 7: Use of Software
- You may enter videos that have been modified using image editing software, or similar programs.
- Entrants shall guarantee that any video enhancements have been made using legally acquired software.
Article 8: Consenting to the Terms of Entry
- Entering this Contest by posting a video in accordance with the terms of Article 4 above, shall mean that the Entrant is deemed to have agreed to, and be bound by, the terms and conditions of the Contest and these Terms of Entry.
- Any additional instructions on the entry procedures for this Contest, whether provided by Sony or posted on this website, on the Instagram account @vlogcamerabysony, or on any other official Sony Instagram account, shall be deemed to constitute part of the terms and conditions of the Contest and these Terms of Entry.
Article 9: Prohibitions and Disqualifications
- Entrants are prohibited from tagging or including in their entry any material that constitutes, or may encourage, behaviour that is considered to be defamatory, libellous, obscene, sexually explicit, profane, threatening, illegal, or criminal; material that may generate civil liability; or material that otherwise violates the law, YouTube's Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/static?gl=US&template=terms), Instagram's Terms of Service (https://en-gb.facebook.com/help/Instagram/478745558852511/), or TikTok's Terms of Service (https://www.tiktok.com/legal/terms-of-service?&appLaunch=app); note that this applies to both the video submitted and any related comments or tags. Entrants may not post videos that contain watermarks, video credits or any third party brand. Entrants shall not manipulate any metrics on the YouTube service (including the number of views, likes, dislikes, or subscribers) to distort the metrics so that they fail to reflect genuine user engagement with the service.
- Submitted videos may be disqualified or excluded, and any awards may be revoked if Sony decides, on justifiable grounds, that the Entry has contravened the terms and conditions of the Contest, these Terms of Entry, the YouTube Community Guidelines (https://www.youtube.com/howyoutubeworks/policies/community-guidelines/), the TikTok Community Guidelines (https://www.tiktok.com/community-guidelines?), the Instagram Community Guidelines (https://help.instagram.com/477434105621119/?locale=ja_JP), or standards of public decency and morality.
Article 10: Review
Sony shall review all qualifying videos (hereinafter, "Entries") posted during the Contest period in line with the terms and conditions of this Contest and these Terms of Entry, and select prospective winning Entries based on Sony's prescribed criteria and procedures. Judges designated by Sony shall then select the winning Entries from the prospective Entries. Please note that we cannot answer any inquiries on the selection results, selection criteria, or any other selection-related matter.
Article 11: Selection of Winners
Entrants whose submitted Entries have been selected to receive an award (hereinafter, "Prospective Winners") shall be notified via the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony), an official Sony media message, or an email from Sony. In addition, they will be asked to submit the file for the selected Entry to provide proof of compliance with the terms and conditions of this Contest and these Terms of Entry.
Sony will then notify Prospective Winners of how to collect their prizes via the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony), an official Sony media message, or an email from Sony. If a Prospective Winner does not reply within five days and fails to follow the instructions in the initial communication received via the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony), an official Sony media message, or an email from Sony, or if data reveals that the Entry does not comply with these Terms of Entry, then the Prospective Winner will forfeit the prize and another Prospective Winner will be selected.
Article 12: Communicating with Winners
Prospective Winners who have completed the procedures set by Sony (hereinafter, "Winners") shall be notified via the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony), an official Sony media message, or an email from Sony in July 2022 or shortly thereafter. All prizes will be shipped to the Winners free of charge in September 2022, or shortly thereafter. Prizes will only be shipped to addresses in the Qualifying Region described in Article 2 above. Prizes may take anywhere from several days to several weeks to arrive. The Entries submitted to Sony by the Winners selected under Article 11 (hereinafter, "Winning Entries") will be released on the official Instagram account (@vlogcamerabysony), or official Sony media on 8 September 2022.
Article 13: Prizes
- For the Asia Pacific region, covering all Qualifying Regions in the Asia Pacific region including Australia and New Zealand, two Winners will be selected from the YouTube Category, and two Winners will be selected from the TikTok/Instagram Category.

- Sony will not offer Winners cash or credit in lieu of prizes. Winners may not swap prizes or transfer them to any third party. If, for any reason, a prize should be unavailable, Sony retains the right to replace it with another prize of equivalent value.
- Unless otherwise prohibited by law, when Winners accept their prize, they shall be deemed to have themselves consented, or consented via means of a third party, to allow the Winning Entry and the Winner's name and country/region to be used by Sony Group Companies and in Sony Group Companies' products and services, as well as for advertising, promotions, marketing and other purposes associated with this Contest (including, but not limited to, the reproduction, processing, editing, and public transmission of the Winning Entry and the Winner's name and country/region); note that none of the aforementioned uses shall incur further compensation or consideration from Sony, nor shall the duration of use be limited. No Winner shall claim any rights, or have a third party claim any rights, with regard to Sony's use of the Winning Entry or the Winner's name and country/region. Such rights shall include portrait rights, copyrights, moral rights, related rights, and all other rights. In particular, Winners shall acknowledge and consent to their Winning Entries being published on Sony Group Company websites and social media accounts.
- Responsibility for any personal tax obligations associated with the receipt of prizes shall lie solely with the Winners. Furthermore, Winners shall agree to exempt Sony from any liability for this type of personal tax obligation incurred through the receipt of prizes.
Article 14: Entrants' Guarantees
In submitting a video for entry in this Contest, Entrants are guaranteeing the following:
- That the submitted video, the procedures used to enter the Contest and the posting of the video fully complies with YouTube's Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/static?gl=US&template=terms), Instagram's Terms of Service (https://en-gb.facebook.com/help/Instagram/478745558852511/), and TikTok's Terms of Service (https://www.tiktok.com/legal/terms-of-service?&appLaunch=app), as well as with all terms and conditions of the Contest and these Terms of Entry.
- That the submitted video is an original video shot by the Entrant.
- That the Entrant holds all rights (including the copyright) associated with the submitted video that are required to grant Sony licence under these Terms of Entry.
- That the submitted video does not infringe the rights of any third party (including publicity rights, privacy rights, or other personal rights.)
- That the Entrant has obtained permission to use any personal images or other personal information contained in the submitted video, in accordance with these Terms of Entry (note that this includes permission from a legal representative (parent or guardian etc.) if the submitted video contains images of, or other personal information about, a minor.)
- That all the proper licences, permits, and disclaimers have been obtained from owners to use any music, images, videos, sounds, photographs, text, or other materials contained in the video. Entrants are not allowed to submit videos sourced from third parties (including from other websites, or blogs etc.) as the unauthorised use of such videos is deemed to risk infringement of copyright.
Article 15 (Disclaimers)
- Sony shall bear no liability whatsoever in relation to the use or publication of any submitted video.
Furthermore, Entrants shall be solely liable for resolving, at their own expense, any conflicts that may arise with a third party in connection with a video that they have submitted. Entrants shall agree to provide compensation and waive all liability, no matter how it is incurred, for Sony, Sony Group Companies, executive officers, employees and agents against any claims, damages, losses, costs and expenses that arise in connection with their Entry into this Contest (this shall include Sony's use of videos submitted, as well as the Winners' acceptance and use of prizes.)
- Sony shall make no representations or warranties, either expressly or implicitly, in relation to this Contest or the prizes, apart from those specifically stipulated in the terms and conditions for the Contest and these Terms of Entry. Sony shall not be liable if Entrants are unable to enter the Contest, or are unable to send/receive messages directly to/from Sony due to a technical error on an external platform, or any other type of error. Sony shall not seek to waive responsibility for any death or personal injury caused by its own negligence.
Article 16: Privacy Policy
Sony shall handle all personal information in line with its Privacy Policies in Australia and New Zealand and the following provisions. Such information shall include the Winner's name, address and country/region of residence, as well as the Winning Entry (if, and only if, the Entry contains a portrait that enables a specific individual to be identified) (collectively referred to as "Personal Information" hereinafter.) Entrants are asked to agree to this before providing any Personal Information. Minors should obtain the consent of their legal representative (a parent or a guardian etc.) before applying for entry.

- Sony shall only use Personal Information for the purposes listed below, and all such information shall be properly managed in accordance with Sony's Secure Control Measures. Unless otherwise permitted under the law, Personal Information will not be used for anything other than the following purposes without prior consent of the Winner.
- Winner's Name and Address
- To ship goods
- To manage the Winning Entry
- For communication related to the Contest
- To respond to queries from the Winner
- To create statistical data
- Winner's Name and Country/Region of Residence, as well as the Winning Entry (only if the Entry contains a portrait that enables a specific individual to be identified)
- To announce the Winners
- Use purposes set forth in Article 13(4)
- To create statistical data
- Sony will not provide Personal Information to any third party without the consent of the Winner, except in the following circumstances:
- If outsourcing services, in whole or in part, in order to meet the objectives stipulated above (note that Sony will check that proper levels of security are maintained with regard to Personal Information before selecting a contractor, and will ensure that the contractor is appropriately supervised as required, by putting contracts in place etc.)
- If any of Sony's business operations are taken over by a third party as a result of a merger, or some other reason
- If a request for disclosure of Personal Information is received from a judicial or administrative agency under the law and Sony deems the grounds for the request to be justified

Article 17: Other Matters
- Failure by Sony to enforce any provision of these Terms of Entry shall not be deemed a waiver of that provision.
- Sony may cancel, suspend or postpone this Contest, or change its duration, at any time with no advance notice.
- Unless local law in the participant's country or region of residence provides otherwise, the Contest, including the Contest rules and these terms and conditions are governed by Australian law (Australian participants) and New Zealand Law (New Zealand participants). Any dispute will be subject to jurisdiction of the courts of Australia. Any disputes regarding Contest shall be subject to jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.
- Nothing in these Terms of Entry limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees and any other consumer protection laws set out in Schedule 2 – the Australian Consumer Law of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Australian residents) or the Fair Trading Act 1986 or Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (New Zealand residents).
