About the Competition

Are you an aspiring young photographer looking to showcase your talent?

The Alpha Awards Photo Competition returns in 2022 and Sony is searching for Australia and New Zealand’s most skilled young photographers. We're inviting you to share your best photos with us on Instagram for the chance to win some incredible prizes and the opportunity to take part in a unique and exciting photography challenge!

If you’re between the ages of 11 and 18 years, simply post your photo on Instagram inspired by the theme Discover and use the hashtag #AlphaAwardsYouth22 to enter. You can enter as many photos as you like.

You could share in a prize pool valued at over $5800 AUD, which includes a range of Sony Alpha camera gear.

How to Enter

Step 1 Competition Entry

Post your photo/s on Instagram and tag @sonyalpha.anz before 20 May, 2022.

Use the hashtag #AlphaAwardsYouth22 to take part in the competition. Make sure your Instagram account is public so we can see your tagged photo/s.

Don't forget to follow @sonyalpha.anz to see the latest updates on this year's competition!

Step 2 Shortlist Selection

Shortlisted entrants will be contacted directly by @sonyalpha.anz via Instagram direct message from Friday 3 June, 2022. This will be followed by a phone call and/or email to the entrants’ parent or guardian.

Step 3 Announcement of Finalists

Two finalists will be announced on Monday 13 June, 2022, via the @sonyalpha.anz Instagram account.

Step 4 Local Challenge

The two selected finalists will go head to head in an exciting photography challenge to determine the winner of the Alpha Awards Youth Photo Competition 2022!

Finalists will have two days to take their best photo in or around their home town using a Sony Alpha camera and submit this for judging so a winner can be selected.

Key Dates

Competition Entries Entries can be submitted between Thursday 7 April, 2022 and Friday 20 May, 2022.
Shortlist Shortlisted entrants and their parents/guardians will be notified from Friday 3 June, 2022.
Finalists Two finalists will be announced on Monday 13 June, 2022, via the @sonyalpha.anz Instagram account.
Local Challenge The photography challenge for finalists will take place over the weekend of 25-26 June, 2022.
Final Announcement The winner will be announced alongside the Alpha Awards 2022 open categories in early July 2022.
