About the event
What goes on in your mind when you home in on a great picture? Doesn’t the mental effort drive away the cares of the world for a moment?
How does it feel when you make a picture that works? Doesn’t it feel good?
In this unique one-day workshop we learn what photography has to do with enlightenment. We learn how the search for a perfect image compares with the search for perfect understanding. We learn that one can help the other. That improving one shines a light on the other.
‘Beauty is a taste of Heaven without the full flavour’ Rumi observed.
Our aim is to learn how to get more of the flavour!
Refresh your photography. Renew your connection with life. Re-invigorate your centre. We explore photography’s spiritual dimensions.
Topics we’ll share discussion on:
- Why chasing images is much like meditation.
- The advantages and disadvantages of mindfulness.
- The Tao of photography: balance and effortless action.
- The Zen of photography: acceptance and non-judgement.
- Creativity and enlightenment.
In this hands-on workshop, we will fuse elements of photography with simple health and mind practices that clarify sight and insight.
We will learn that thinking photographically is a meditative practice; that when you look for photos you are meditating. We will learn how strengthening meditative practices augments awareness and sensitivity, leading to a state of Lifefulness. That is a heightened alertness giving rise to the most satisfying photography.
We will share techniques that anyone can add to their daily life: no need for long meditations or yoga-athleticism!
- Centering techniques.
- Energising techniques.
- Awareness exercises.
- Taking command of your camera and photo-technique.
- Activating muscle memory.
- Exploiting the miracle of neuroplasticity
- The power of channeling: letting go.
- The meditation of picture composition.
There will be plenty of time to get the feel of the techniques so you can add to your life those that appeal to you. There will be time to chat, and exchange.
