Step back into the golden age of Hollywood and discover the timeless beauty of black & white portrait photography.

Inspired by the classic Hollywood portraits of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, this hands-on workshop is all about beautiful light, elegant posing and creating portraits with character.

 

We’ll explore how simple lighting can transform a face, how small changes in posing can completely change the mood of an image, and how to create that classic cinematic feeling without needing a complicated setup.

I’ll walk you through the lighting and shooting process, then you’ll have plenty of time to photograph the model yourself and experiment with different angles, compositions and expressions.

Whether you’re new to portrait photography or simply want to try something different, this is a chance to slow things down, enjoy the process and create some timeless black & white portraits.

• Bring your camera and a portrait lens you enjoy using. A 50mm, 85mm or 70–200mm lens can work beautifully, but don’t worry if you have something different. There’s no need to buy or rent a special lens for this workshop. Please also bring: 
• Fully charged batteries 
• Plenty of memory card space 
• Comfortable clothes 
• Your favourite camera No previous portrait photography experience is required. You don’t need a huge collection of equipment either. Bring the camera you enjoy shooting with and we’ll work with what you have.
