Portrait workshop exploring Hanfu and Kimono beauties with lights

About the event

Many portrait workshops follow a similar format: a model, a light setup, and a chance to take pictures. If you have attended several ofthese sessions, you may feel that they often look andfeel quite similar. This workshop aims to offer something alittle different.

Asian portraiture carries its own visual language, often defined by softer facial transitions, subtle skin tones, and a quiet sense of elegance. Photographing it well requires a thoughtful approachto light, composition, and expression.

In this workshop, Lucius Yin will demonstrate how he approaches portrait photographythrough careful lighting and direction. Participants will learnhow small changes in light placement, shadow, pose, and framing can shape depth, mood, and emotional presence while keeping skin texture naturaland refined.

The session will also include models styled in traditional East Asian clothing such as Chinese Hanfu and Japanese Kimono. This creates an opportunity not only to practice portrait techniques, but also to experience and explore the visual aesthetics ofEast Asian culture — from the textures of the garments to the gestures and atmosphere they create.

The workshop combines technical instruction, live lighting demonstrations, and guided shooting, allowing participants to observe the full process from concept and setup through to photographing the final images.

This session is suitable for photographersinterested in portrait, fashion, and editorial photography, and for those who would like to experience a portraitworkshop with a distinctive cultural aesthetic.
