Learn to capture amazing landscapes in the stunning Mackenzie Region

About the event

Join Hakan on a four day, three night trip around Mount Cook and the Mackenzie Region shooting landscapes and astroscapes. This workshop will cover all that's required to capture and process beautiful landscape images.

Moderate fitness required.

Itinerary 

Friday 

We will depart from Christchurch Airport at 12.30pm on Friday and head to our accommodation in Twizel (for more information on the accommodation please see the FAQ below). For sunset we will head to a scenic Mount Cook lookout.

Saturday 

Sunrise will be at Lake Ohao or Lake Ruataniwha. We will go through processing during the day and for sunset we will walk to Hooker Lake with spectacular views of Mount Cook. 

Sunday 

We'll start Sunday with a sunrise from Tasman Lake. During the day we will go over processing and explore local lakes. For sunset we'll head to Tasman Lake.

Monday 

After sunrise on Monday morning we will head back to Christchurch Airport in time for your afternoon/evening flight. 

All nights, if clear, will see us shooting astro too! Locations are flexible and may be changed to suit the weather conditions. 

Accommodation is included and travel throughout each day will be provided. There's no need to arrange transportation other than getting to Christchurch Airport. Note: if you'd prefer to make your own way to and from Twizel that is perfectly fine.

  • Processing with Lightroom to make the most of your RAW files
  • The art of long exposures - capturing and processing
  • Astro photography if the weather permits

  • Camera & lenses
  • Tripod
  • Memory cards
  • Batteries and charger
  • Shutter release (wired or through an app)
  • Filter set (some filters will be available but it is also recommended to bring your own)
  • Warm clothing
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Laptop (optional) to follow along on processing sessions throughout the workshop

You will be responsible for your own meals. We will stop to purchase food for our stay when in Christchurch.
Accommodation - details will be shared nearer the event date. Travel to and from Christchurch Airport and throughout the workshop, with our base in Twizel. DOC concession fees.
No, you will be responsible for getting to Christchurch Airport. Flights should be arriving on the Friday by midday and leaving on the Monday after 2.30pm so you have a Friday evening to Monday morning available for photography.

Yes, please do not book flights (if required) until we have confirmed we will be going ahead. A minimum of 3 attendees is required. We will notify those that have booked if the event will go ahead by the end of August 2020.
Moderate fitness is required for the planned walks.
