About the event
Photography is about far more than mastering your camera. It is about learning to see, understanding light, recognizing opportunities and knowing how to turn the experiences happening around you into compelling photographs.
Join internationally acclaimed travel photographer and educator Andy Yee for a personalized 1-on-1 online masterclass designed to help you develop your photography from wherever you are starting.
Drawing on more than 15 years of experience photographing around the world, Andy will mentor you through the many different sides of photography that can be encountered while traveling. From sweeping landscapes and wildlife to architecture, people, culture, street scenes, food, details and unexpected moments, the course is about becoming a more complete and adaptable photographer.
This isn't about learning one particular type of photography.
It is about learning how to photograph whatever you encounter.
A Masterclass Built Around You
Everyone approaches photography differently.
Rather than following a fixed curriculum, this five-session masterclass is built around your experience, your interests, your camera equipment and the areas of photography you want to improve.
You might be starting from scratch and want to understand the fundamentals, or you may already be an experienced photographer looking to refine your technique and develop a stronger photographic vision.
Andy will assess where you are, where you want to go and then tailor the sessions accordingly.
The emphasis throughout is on helping you become more confident, observant and intentional with your photography.
Learn to Photograph the World Around You
Travel provides an incredible variety of photographic opportunities.
One moment you might be standing in front of an enormous landscape. The next, you could be photographing a person in a local market, wildlife on the other side of the road, an architectural detail, a fleeting moment on a city street or an unexpected scene that you could never have planned for.
The ability to recognize and photograph all of these opportunities is what makes a great travel photographer.
During the masterclass, Andy can draw from his experience across a wide range of photographic disciplines, including:
Landscape
Learn how to work with light, composition, perspective and changing conditions to create stronger landscape photographs.
Wildlife
Understand how to anticipate moments, use autofocus and camera settings effectively, work with longer lenses and create images that capture more than simply an animal in the frame.
People & Culture
Learn how to photograph people, traditions and everyday life respectfully while creating images that communicate something about the place and the people you encounter.
Street Photography
Develop your ability to see moments as they happen, work with available light and recognize interesting compositions and interactions in busy environments.
Architecture & Cities
Explore perspective, lines, geometry, scale and light to create compelling images in urban environments.
Details & The Unexpected
Great travel photography isn't always found at the famous viewpoint.
Learn to slow down and recognize the smaller details, colors, textures, patterns and spontaneous moments that can often become some of the most memorable images from a trip.
Night & Low Light
Explore how to approach photography when the sun goes down, from city scenes and architecture to night landscapes and other low-light situations.
Techniques covered
- Learn to Adapt: One of the most important skills a photographer can develop is the ability to adapt. You cannot control the weather, the light, the people around you or what happens when you arrive somewhere. Instead of relying on a perfect set of conditions, learn how to make photographs from whatever situation you find yourself in.
- We'll explore how to:
- Recognize opportunities in changing conditions
- Make the most of difficult or unexpected light
- Adapt your camera settings quickly
- Change your composition when a scene isn't working
- Use different focal lengths and perspectives
- Work with whatever subjects are available
- Find photographs beyond the obvious tourist locations
- React to spontaneous moments
- Make creative decisions rather than simply following rules
- The goal is to make you a photographer who can walk into an unfamiliar environment and confidently find photographs.
What to bring
- Sessions will be recorded and shared, but bring something to take notes.
- Bring your camera gear to sessions if possible
