The small-group lighting workshop for photographers who can set up a light, but still can’t always make it look right

Most photographers hit the same wall with lighting.

They know how to put up a softbox. They know how to trigger a flash. They have watched the tutorials, copied the diagrams, and followed the behind-the-scenes breakdowns. But when they get into a real room with a real person in front of the camera, the image still does not quite land.

The light is technically working, but something feels off.

It is too flat. Too harsh. Too messy. Too even. Too directional. Not directional enough. The background is doing something strange. The skin does not feel right. The subject is not separating. The image is close, but not finished.

That is what this workshop is built to help fix.

Practical Lighting is a small, hands-on class for mid-level photographers who already understand the basic mechanics of flash, but want to get better at controlling light, choosing the right modifier, adapting to the subject in front of them, and making images that feel more polished, intentional and professional.

This is not about memorising one perfect lighting setup.

It is about understanding how light behaves, why different modifiers work for different things, and how small decisions around distance, direction, softness, fill, spill, contrast, bounce, flags and negative fill can completely change the final image.

The goal is simple: to help you stop copying lighting diagrams and start making light work for you.
