For my second Women in Focus webinar I will be chattng with Kirsten Hough of Wort & Flea—a full-time, award-winning, NZIPP accredited professional pet photographer and a proud Digital Imaging Advocate for Sony NZ.
Kirsten’s love for animals and photography has been lifelong. Growing up surrounded by animals, she always had a camera in hand. But in 2016, after a life-changing diagnosis of stage three aggressive breast cancer, she knew it was time to pursue her passion and lifelong dream—capturing the unique bond between pets and their people.
Based in rural Waikato, in the small country town of Pokeno, Kirsten offers pet photography experiences like no other. Clients and their dogs are treated to adventurous farm walks, capturing playful and heartwarming moments. Kirsten has also recently built her own photo studio, so she can now offer her clients indoor sessions. With easy access to both Auckland and Hamilton, she’s perfectly positioned to create stunning memories for pet lovers across the region.
Beyond her client work, Kirsten is dedicated to making a difference—partnering with rescue organizations to provide better photographs that help animals find forever homes faster. She also shares her expertise by helping others improve their photography skills through a hands-on, practical approach.
I'm super excited to hear about Kirsten's journey, her passion for storytelling through images, and how she’s turning her love for animals into a lasting legacy.
