Hi, I’m Jay Evans – a Nature, Landscape, and Astro Photographer based in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
My work is driven by a deep passion for wild places and the night sky, capturing the beauty of rugged landscapes, natural light, and celestial wonders across Australia. From ancient escarpments and waterfalls to pristine wilderness under star-filled skies, I seek out moments that connect people to nature through powerful imagery.
Alongside my photography, I lead guided tours and workshops that help others develop their skills in landscape, nightscape, and nature photography, with a focus on creative technique and environmental appreciation. I hold commercial tour operator licenses with NSW National Parks, Northern Territory Parks, and Parks Australia, and I’m an accredited Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Tour Guide.

What is your go to in your Alpha kit and why?
The Epic Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS is that one lens that when all other landscape compositions seem to have evaporated, strapping this fellow onto an Alpha 7R IV gives you options you never thought existed. And the sharpness at 400mm with 61MP resolution allows you to crop right down to the finest details. I never leave home without it now.
Most memorable moment shooting with Alpha?
My 1st BULB Long Exposure using the Alpha 7R III was looking out over Glen Helen Gorge in the Northern Territory on a completely clear night, capturing star trails. After 30 minutes I was completely blown away by the details in the shadows and the colour of the trails captured. It has changed my view on how to capture star trails knowing I can keep power going with an external USB battery.
