Rachel Hadfield is a photographer and creative director known for her candid and creative style. Her natural ability to connect with people results in images that feel natural and relaxed, as if the camera isn’t even there.

Based in Tauranga, New Zealand, Rachel has spent over a decade capturing weddings, portraits, and commercial assignments worldwide. Recently she has blended her two passions into her creative practice — mountain biking and photography.

Outside of work, Rachel is a mother of two daughters, ages 7 and 19, and likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors, either riding bikes or hiking.

Committed to community building, Rachel has co-hosted several wedding photography workshops and film events. Her goal is to continue integrating her love for people and the outdoors into both her professional work and the broader photographic community.

What is your go to in your Alpha kit and why?

Every piece of equipment in my kit serves a specific purpose, but my favourite combination would have to be the Sony Alpha 9 III with the 50mm f/1.4 GM. The body excels in both commercial and sports photography, while the 50mm GM lens offers versatility and consistently magical results. A close second is the 24mm f/1.4 GM lens, which is excellent for capturing a wider view and telling more of the story.

Most memorable moment shooting with Alpha?

My camera has taken me to some pretty amazing places, but I would have to say one of the highlights was creating stills for a female-only Red Bull video project in Queenstown. You spend so much time working alone as a self-employed person, so the opportunity to work alongside a talented group of people in such an amazing location really made me happy about my career choice.
