One of our signature rain concepts returns — this time with the elegance and movement of ballet.
For this special studio workshop, we'll build an artificial rain rig inside the studio, combining rain, controlled studio lighting and atmospheric fog to create dramatic ballet portraits.
This isn't only about getting incredible photographs. We'll break down how the setup works and demonstrate techniques for lighting and photographing subjects in rain.
We'll explore:
Building and working safely with a studio rain rig
Lighting rain so individual droplets become visible
Backlighting and rim lighting
Balancing light on the dancer with light on the rain
Working with fog and atmosphere
Camera settings for freezing or showing movement in rain
Ballet posing, movement and composition
Creating cinematic, high-impact portraits
Attendees will have plenty of opportunities to photograph our ballet dancer across multiple lighting, rain and atmospheric setups.
This workshop is part of Sony Scene Festival 2026. Eligible attendees can receive an entry into Sony's competition for the chance to win one of five Sony-hosted photography experiences in Tokyo & Kyoto, Japan, subject to Sony's competition terms.
