Bay to Birdwood

Practice autofocus techniques and settings at this classic car event

About the event

We’re going to attend the 40th Anniversary of the Bay to Birdwood. It is the largest, continually-held motoring event for veteran, vintage and classic vehicles held anywhere in the world.

Take this opportunity to practice using your camera in various autofocus modes, autofocus areas and shutter speeds to ensure you get sharp photos in the very difficult situation of photographing moving cars. The camera’s drive mode gives you options for various continuous shooting speeds to try out. You can also practice the technique of panning with the cars to get that blurred background look.

WARNING: There is inherent danger in any motoring event, so be very aware of cars. In particular, do not walk or take photos on the road at any time.

Due to the face-to-face nature of this trip, you will be required to adhere to government regulations for the pandemic that are current at the time of this event.

This year due to COVIDSafe, members of the public are not allowed at start or finish! The classic cars will start coming through this location at about 8:30am, followed by veteran and vintage cars.

The location we have chosen is on the corner of Millbrook and main North East Road (just past Inglewood), where we will be behind a guard rail and a turnout lane. Park your car just around the corner in Millbrook Road, so our cars will be out of the photos. Traffic will be diverted from main NE Road to Lower NE Road from 8:30am, so if you arrive by 8:30am all should be good. You may like to grab refreshments at Lovell's Bakery in Inglewood.

Colin will email photo tips and location details to registered attendees on Friday (25th) using your registered Sony email address, so check your junk mail folder. If you don't receive it by Friday afternoon, please SMS your name and email address to Colin on 0408 426 546.
