How to compose landscapes for impact and storytelling, with live mark-ups

About the event

Join me for a two-hour online session on composition, and how to make high impact images. I'll go through the choices that go into a strong landscape photograph, so you can use them in your own work.

I'll start with the composition guides most photographers know, like the rule of thirds and the vanishing point, as a starting point for more complex image making. Then I'll cover lines, depth and space, separating your subject so there's a clear focal point, and balance across the frame.

We'll also look at whether an image is made for impact or for storytelling, and how that shapes the composition. There's also a section on light and colour: working warm to cool, using contrast as depth, and colour complements.

I'll mark up award-winning images live on screen and talk through the decisions behind them, along with case studies and common mistakes. We'll finish with a Q&A, so bring your questions along.

It's an updated presentation, and it runs for two hours with a 10 minute break at the halfway mark. You'll get a recording afterwards.
