Evening Seascape Photography Workshop

Join me for an evening photography workshop at Waiake Beach on Auckland’s North Shore.

We’ll begin while there is still plenty of daylight and explore how to frame and compose a coastal landscape, working with the shoreline, rocks, foreground elements and horizon to build stronger seascape images.

As the evening progresses, we’ll look at how the changing light affects our compositions and exposure, and how understanding the movement of the tide can help us find different photographic opportunities along the beach.

As we get closer to sunset, we’ll move onto tripods and experiment with slower shutter speeds, using the movement of the sea to create different effects and textures in the water.

Sunset is around 6:03 pm, giving us the opportunity to photograph through the transition from evening light into sunset and the lower light immediately afterwards.

This is a hands-on workshop, with plenty of time to experiment with different compositions and camera settings throughout the session.

We will meet in the carpark by the beach, then go together to the tor.

• Your own camera gear 
• A tripod – essential for the slow shutter section 
• A wide-angle or standard zoom lens will be useful, if you have one 
• ND or polarising filters, if you have them – not essential 
• Fully charged battery 
• Empty memory card
• Warm layers and weather-appropriate clothing 
• Sturdy footwear suitable for the beach and walking on rocks
