Join me for an evening photography workshop at Waiake Beach on Auckland’s North Shore.
After a great response to the previous Waiake workshop, I’m running another session, but this time the tide will give us a different set of conditions and compositions to work with.
We’ll begin at 5pm while there is still plenty of daylight and explore how to frame and compose coastal landscapes from the beach, working with the shoreline, rocks, foreground elements and horizon to build stronger seascape images.
With the higher tide, we’ll look closely at the movement of the water and how it interacts with the rocks and shoreline. We’ll explore how different shutter speeds can completely change the way the sea appears in an image, from retaining movement and texture to creating smoother, more atmospheric long exposures.
As we get closer to sunset (6:30pm) and the light levels begin to drop, we’ll work predominantly with tripods and longer exposures. We’ll look at choosing suitable shutter speeds, balancing exposure and using the movement of the sea creatively within a composition.
This session is slightly more advanced than the previous Waiake workshop and is best suited to photographers who have a basic understanding of their camera and would like to learn how to shoot in manual.
This is a hands-on workshop, with plenty of time to experiment with compositions, exposure settings and different approaches to photographing moving water.
This workshop is suitable for photographers who have a camera and would like to learn more about seascape and long-exposure photography.
You don’t need to be confident shooting in manual mode, I’ll help you with camera settings, shutter speeds and exposure as we work through the evening.
We’ll also look at how to use ND filters for longer exposures, so bring one along if you have one- if not, there will be a couple of samples to use.
A camera and tripod are essential for this workshop, as we’ll be working with slower shutter speeds and long exposures that are difficult to achieve handheld or with a phone.
