Capture the beauty of Hahndorf Flower Garden from golden hour to starlight

About the event

Step into the beauty of the flower garden for a unique evening of photography, beginning in golden hour and continuing through sunset, blue hour, and into the night. This workshop is designed to help you capture the changing light across the garden as day fades into darkness. As the evening unfolds, we will also experience the moon rising over the flower garden, adding another beautiful moment and creative opportunity to photograph this stunning location under the night sky.
 

 

Please note that if there's a cancellation due to bad weather, an alternative date of 26th October has been set. 

 

 

Techniques covered

  • How to set up your camera for golden hour, night sky photography
  • Manual exposure settings for nightscapes, including ISO, aperture, and shutter speed
  • Focusing accurately in low light and darkness
  • Planning and locating the Milky Way Core using apps and astronomical tools
  • Long exposure techniques, including the Rule of 500, Rule of 300, and NPF rule for sharper stars
  • Composing nightscapes with flowers, foreground interest, and the Milky Way
  • Tips for photographing moonrise over the flower garden

What to bring

  • DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual control
  • Wide angle lens, ideally in the 14mm to 24mm range, with a fast aperture such as f/2.8 to f/4
  • Telephoto lens for capturing the moon rise
  • Sturdy tripod
  • Headlamp or torch with red light mode to preserve night vision
  • Spare batteries and memory cards
  • Warm clothing and sturdy footwear
  • Snacks and water
