Capture crystal clear lakes reflecting mountain vistas in NZ's high country

About the event

Overview

Explore the amazing high country mountains and lakes in the Ashburton Lakes area while honing your photography skills. Staying at Lake Heron Station in the heart of the Canterbury high country, we will explore and capture this remote and beautiful area of New Zealand in detail over 4 days. A scenic flight will also be available during our stay to capture the awesome mountain vistas of the Southern Alps.

What you'll learn

During the weekend you'll learn a variety of techniques to improve your composition, master your camera's settings and use filters to enhance the images you capture. I'll help you to perfect more advanced techniques such as focus stacking and exposure bracketing to improve your results when photographing challenging landscape and astro scenes. You'll also learn how to take the potential from your RAW images and turn it into images that will wow through the use of both Lightroom and Photoshop. And of course we'll have a ton of fun and adventures along the way too.

Please note the full workshop fee is $1,599NZD - see Fees and Payment below.

Friday 10am

Transport will leave at 10am from Christchurch Airport . If you prefer to travel directly to the workshop, you will need to be at Lake Heron Station by 2pm.

Upon arrival, we will have an introduction to the weekend before heading out to shoot sunset near Lake Heron Station.

Saturday/Sunday

Over the course of the weekend we will explore and photograph the beautiful Ashburton Lakes region including Lake Heron, Lake Camp and Lake Clearwater. We'll also explore the Rangitata valley and Mount Sunday (Edoras in Lord of the Rings) with views to the magnificent Mt D'Archaic and the Cloudy Peak Range. During our stay at Lake Heron Station, we'll have also time to explore the farm via 4WD, and in the evenings capture the amazing Milky Way over the mountains and lakes in the area.

On one of the mornings we plan to take to the skies to explore the area with a 1 hour scenic flight over the mountains during sunrise and golden hour.

We will also incorporate two editing sessions during the weekend to maximise your knowledge and learning of the best post-processing techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Monday 2pm

After a final sunrise session, we will leave Lake Heron at approximately 10am for a 2pm arrival at Christchurch Airport.
