About the event
Ilan Wittenberg's journey as a professional portrait photographer began in 2011 and he's never looked back. His main business is family photography, but he's also very passionate about fine art and travel photography.
Ilan has won numerous awards, including the 2018 Sony Alpha Awards Grand Prize, and has been named the NZIPP's Auckland Photographer of the Year three times.
This workshop will consist of three parts:
1. Presentation
Ilan will showcase his portrait work, including travel photography from Jerusalem, Morocco, Tanzania and Rwanda. During this presentation you will have opportunities to ask questions regarding his techniques, equipment, software, methodologies and systems. He will also talk about studio photography, light, modifiers, composition and posing. In addition, this talk will cover topics such as creating a portfolio, printing images and entering awards.
2. Demonstration
In this section Ilan will be creating glamour photos with a model, using a studio light with modifiers and natural light. He will focus on different lighting techniques and posing with the aid of props to create dramatic portraits.
3. Hands On
This is where you will practice some of the techniques discussed using your own camera. (There will also be a selection of Sony cameras and lenses for you to try, so don't forget to bring an SD card.)
As an added bonus you will also be able to try different printing papers courtesy of Epson NZ who will have an A2 size photo printer on-site. You can even bring a couple of your favourite images on a USB stick or SD card (JPEG format) and these will be printed during the workshop. Bring an empty cardboard tube so your prints will travel home safely.
Note: Ilan will also be giving a free Artists Talk at 11am in the Uxbridge main gallery space and you are welcome to attend this event.
