About the event

Join award winning landscape astrophotographer and Sony Advocate Will Godward for an in depth 6 part online masterclass series focused on Milky Way photography. Across two months, this practical and inspiring workshop series will guide you through every stage of capturing the night sky, from setting up your Sony camera and choosing the right gear, through to planning, shooting, editing, timelapses, and creating tracked panoramas.

Designed for photographers wanting real world guidance and a stronger understanding of astrophotography, this series will help you build confidence with your Sony camera and take your Milky Way images to the next level.

With over 20 years of experience photographing the night sky, Will Godward shares practical techniques, proven workflows, and the lessons he has learnt in the field.

Sessions

1. How to Set Up Your Sony Camera for Astrophotography and Selecting the Best Bodies and Lenses

Learn how to correctly set up your Sony camera for astrophotography and understand which bodies and lenses are best suited to night sky work. This session covers important in-camera settings, lens selection, focal lengths, apertures, and how to get the most from your Sony gear under the stars.

2. Planning for Milky Way Photography, Aurora, Meteor Showers, Comets, Eclipses and Night Sky Compositions

Understand how to plan successful Milky Way shoots by learning about seasonality, moon phases, weather, darkness, timing, and location. This session also covers planning for meteor showers and finding strong night sky compositions that connect the landscape with the sky. Using the correct software and apps to support your planning. 

3. Accessories and Star Trackers for Better Milky Way Photography

Explore the accessories that can make a real difference in the field, including tripods, lighting, power solutions, interval shooting, filters, and more. You will also learn how star trackers work, when to use them, and how they can improve image quality and detail in your Milky Way photography.

4. Basic Milky Way Editing in Lightroom

Learn a simple and effective Lightroom workflow for editing Milky Way images while keeping them natural and balanced. This session covers RAW file preparation, white balance, contrast, colour, noise reduction, and bringing out the structure of the Milky Way. A raw un edited Milky Way image will be provided, so you can follow along during the session. 

5. Capturing Star Trails, Timelapses and Editing Astro Timelapses using Sony Cameras

Discover how to transform the movement of the night sky into compelling visual stories. In this session, you will learn how to capture stunning star trails and create astro timelapses using Sony cameras, from planning and camera setup through to interval settings, composition, battery management, storage, and editing workflow. Whether you want to create dramatic circular star trail images or smooth cinematic timelapse sequences, this session will help you bring the stars to life.

6. Advanced Astrophotography and Mastering Tracked Milky Way Panoramas

Take your astrophotography further by learning how to create tracked Milky Way panoramas with greater detail, scale, and impact. This session covers planning, camera orientation, overlap, exposure consistency, and practical field workflow for capturing panorama sequences successfully.
