Lead by landscape award-winning photographer Andy Yee, and accompanied by Robin and Timothy Moon, this tour explores the southern parts of Morocco from the ancient Kasbahs waiting to be explored to the majestic sand dunes of the Sahara Desert. The intimate group size is designed for personal attention to develop your photographic vision.
Day 1-2: Marrakech
We start our Moroccan odyssey in Marrakech, Morocco’s famous red city. We explore the bustling heart of the medina and the souks. Other highlights include Majorelle Gardens, Palace Badii, Ben Youssef and Bahia Palace. Marrakech is a street photographer's colorful and vivid dream.
Day 3: Ait Ben Haddou
Our journey heads towards the High Atlas Mountains and the well preserved kasbahs of Telouet and Ait Ben Haddou. We will be able to explore these ancient fortresses and imagine what it was like to live back in their glory.
Day 4-5: Tamnougalt
In the Draa Valley, we will explore Tamnougalt and have a private session of Tamnougalt Folklore. Moroccan folklore is as old as the country. Tamnougalt's folklore is especially well-known throughout Morocco. It consists of men singing about their beliefs, battles between warriors, and how to win a woman's heart. Dancing and percussion are important elements.
Day 6-7: Merzouga (Sahara)
Everyone should have the opportunity to feel small in the presence of something much larger. The Sahara Desert is such a place. This is not the touristy Instagram popular dunes referred to online as the Marrakech Desert, No, these are the real dunes of Erg Chebbi, the largest dunes in Morocco. We will spend time in and around the desert looking for compositions of lines and contrasts in the sand.
Day 8: Dades Gorges
The road to Dades Gorge takes us through many small picturesque villages and valleys. Oases and kasbahs provide us with opportunities to explore the life and culture of the Moroccan countryside.
Day 9: Taroudant
We then spend a night in Taroudant, known as the Grandmother of Marrakech. The entire city of Taroudant is preserved within its red walls. We will explore what Taroudant has to offer, and then stay in a luxurious setting in the countryside.
Day 10-12: Essaouira
We then head towards Morocco’s coastline and travel north to the fishing village of Essaouira. Along the way, we will enjoy a specially organized photography session of horses running on the beach at sunset. Essaouira is a 3000 year old port first used by the Phonecians. It is rich in history and its murex blue runs through its veins.
The end of the south tour gives us some time to review images from the south workshop and sit down for some post process editing sessions from the workshop leaders.
There is an opportunity to continue the Moroccan journey with the North workshop tour that begins in Casablanca. If you are interested in doing both tours, please get in contact for a discounted rate!
