About the event
Learn, practice and play with portrait photography!
Curious about portraits but not sure where to start? This welcoming workshop is designed especially for beginners who want to build confidence behind the camera in a relaxed, supportive setting.
With Wellington portrait photographer Rebecca McMillan as your guide, you’ll explore how to capture people using just the light around you. No flash or fancy lighting required. Our slightly spooky late-October theme adds a fun twist, and with a professional model to work with, you’ll get plenty of chances to practice both taking photos and gently directing your subject.
Over two and a half hours, Rebecca will share how she approaches a scene, engages with her subject, and makes the most of natural light in an outdoor city location. You'll then have plenty of time to practice photography and directing our model. You’ll leave with new skills, a boost of confidence, and portraits you’ll be proud of.
All camera brands are welcome, and you don’t need to be an expert with your settings, Rebecca will guide you through. Sony spot prizes and loan gear are also available (let us know at least two weeks ahead if you’d like to borrow a camera or lens).
Spaces are limited so everyone gets lots of time to learn and play. Come along and discover how fun portrait photography can be!
Please Note: This workshop is weather dependent and the exact late afternoon timing is subject to change. Registered participants will be notified one week prior if any workshop details have to change.
