Explore the south Island of NZ from the mountains to the pristine coastline

About the event

$1,000.00 deposit required to secure your spot.

Full cost of event is $9250 (AUD) per person. Remaining balance minus the deposit will be paid direct to Andy Yee Photography. Any clients outside of Australia and New Zealand that would like to book for this workshop are invited to visit www.andyyee.com to make a reservation

Join Andy Yee and fellow Sony Photographer Carmel Boyd for 10 days aimed at putting you in front of the most epic south island landscapes and settings optimal for perfect light (or astrophotography!) 

 

New Zealand Itinerary

Day 1 - Queenstown

Arrival in Queenstown on the South Island. A perfect place to start our workshop which can be easily accessed by Queenstown International airport (ZQN). We will have a welcome dinner to meet and prepare the group for the trip.

Day 2 - Wanaka

With a great reputation for food and wine, the lively town of Wanaka also has the stunning backdrop of snow capped mountains and the crystal clear of Lake Wanaka. Here you will have the opportunity to photograph the famous Wanaka Tree, only a short walk from the foreshore of town with the possibility of shooting astrophotography.

Day 3 & 4 - Mt Cook

During our time at Mt Cook we will cover multiple locations including the near by Lake Pukaki, Tasman Glacier and Hooker Lake. Our longest walk of the trip will include the 10km easy-moderate walk along the Hooker Valley track.

*Optional Extra - There may be an opportunity to do a scenic flight of the area as part of our workshop. This will be an optional exercise that is not included in the cost of the workshop and will be weather dependant.​

Day 5 - Tekapo

Your chance to capture a shot of the famous Church of the Good Shepard. Situated on the shores of Lake Tekapo with stunning glacial blue waters as your backdrop. The possibility of capturing the Milky Way over the church is also possible if clear skies are forecast!

​Day 6 - Moeraki Boulders

We will head to the South Islands East coast to Koekohe Beach where we will be shooting the Moereki Boulders. Some of these spherical boulders are up to 2m high, and with the ocean tide surrounding them they make for a perfect seascape opportunity. Katiki Lighthouse has a large seal colony and variety of wildlife that we can observe up close.

Day 7 - Nugget Point

Nugget Point provides panoramic views over the Catlins Coastline with NZ oldest lighthouse sitting high up on the point and surround by dozens of rocks situated in the ocean below. Dolphins and seals can also be spotted playing and sunbaking around the rocks below!

Day 8 - The Catlins

Driving through the native forests of the Catlin, we will head to  multiple waterfalls including McLean Falls, Matai Falls, horseshoe falls and Purakaunui Falls all is which are a short easy walk from each carpark.

Day 9 & 10 - Milford Sound

The West Coast’s Fiordland will be one of the major highlights of the trip! Carved by glaciers, you’ll find yourself surrounded the fiord’s cliff’s, mountain peaks and waterfalls as high as 1000 meters. There are multiple photo opportunities not only from land but during our morning boat cruise along the glacials waters and past the iconic Mitre Peak. 

Day 11 - Queenstown

Photograph the iconic Glenorchy Boathouse and the Three Sister on Lake Wakatipu while surrounded by the stunning mountains of the Southern Alps. We will conclude our workshop back in Queenstown at the end of the day.

  • We understand getting the photo into the card is only half of the battle. During the workshop, there will be time to go over post-processing to help you create images that pack a punch. Our photographers will sit down with you to assist your selection process, Lightroom and Photoshop workflows and techniques, and develop your best images, so you can showcase your photography prowess.

No. Please book flights in and out of Queenstown where we start and complete our workshop tour.
Yes. This workshop included some of the best accommodation available for a tour of the NZ south island. We will be as close to being on location as possible to have access to optimum opportunities for the best photos.
