About the event

Do you have what it takes?

The same studio.
The same tools.

Completely different results.

For this session of On Board with LUNAR Studios, we’re putting photographers head-to-head in a live portrait challenge. Each photographer will be given access to the same space, the same gear, the same model, and the same time limit, but the outcome will come down to their vision, decision-making, direction, lighting and taste.

This is a chance to see how different image makers think under pressure. How do they read a brief? What do they do first? How do they direct talent? How do they choose lighting? What do they ignore? What do they chase?

You’ll watch the process unfold live as each photographer builds their version of the shot, talks through their choices, and tries to create something that actually stands out.

Want to enter the challenge?

We’ll be opening up spots for photographers to put their name forward and take part in the duel.

Selected entrants will shoot live on the night, with prizes announced at the event.

This is not about who has the most followers or the most expensive kit. It’s about who can walk into a room, make decisions, direct clearly, and create a strong portrait with the tools in front of them.

What to expect

A relaxed industry night at LUNAR Studios with live portrait demonstrations, creative problem-solving, and plenty of time to connect with other photographers, filmmakers and image makers.

You’ll get to see three different approaches to the same challenge, then unpack what worked, what changed, and why the final images feel different.

Why come?

Because this is the part of photography people rarely get to see.

Not just the final image.
The thinking.
The pressure.
The choices.
The mistakes.
The recovery.

If you want to sharpen your own approach to portrait photography, creative direction and working with talent, this is the kind of night that will give you a lot to steal.
