AU NZ
An event to help kick start your career in the image industry!

About the event

Want to work in photography, video, content, or the broader imaging industry, but not sure what the actual path looks like?

This session is built to give you a clear, honest map.

Georges Cameras, Sony and Lunar Studios are coming together for a new event series designed to help photographers, videographers and creators build real momentum. For our first session, Oliver Minnett from Georges and Nick Fraser from Sony will unpack what it actually looks like to start, grow, and sustain a career in imaging in 2026.

Not the fantasy version. The real one.

We’ll talk through the different paths people take into the industry: commercial work, weddings, events, editorial, content creation, social-first work, agency jobs, in-house roles, assisting, freelancing, and building your own thing. We’ll also cover what actually pays, what tends to waste people’s time, what gear decisions matter early, and what you should probably ignore.

This is not a technical deep dive. It is a practical, career-focused session for people who want clarity.

Whether you’re a hobbyist trying to turn photography or video into paid work, an emerging shooter trying to find your lane, or someone already working but unsure what the next move is, this session is built to help you leave with a more useful plan.

What you’ll learn

You’ll walk away with a stronger understanding of:

  • The main career paths in photography, video and content creation
  • What kinds of work are actually getting booked right now
  • How to think about gear early without wasting money
  • The difference between shooting for yourself and shooting for a brief
  • What clients, agencies and brands tend to expect
  • Common dead ends that slow people down
  • The next practical step you should take after the session

How the night runs

We’ll start with a short welcome and intro to the Georges x Sony x Lunar series, then move into a panel-style conversation with Oliver and Nick about the reality of building a career in imaging.

After a short break and mingle, we’ll move into a live working session with a model on set. Oliver and Nick will walk through a simplified version of how a real job comes together: the brief, the setup, the shoot, the review, and what you would actually be trying to deliver.

The lighting will be kept intentionally simple so the focus stays on the process, not the gear flex.

We’ll finish with an open Q&A, so bring your real questions: getting started, getting paid, approaching clients, finding your lane, gear choices, assisting, portfolio building, or anything else you’re stuck on.

What to expect

This is a relaxed, community-focused evening at Lunar Studios. There will be time to meet other creatives, ask questions, and get hands-on with selected Sony gear during the mingle and live session.

A professional model will be on set for the live working demo, but the focus is on understanding the process behind a job: how to think, how to brief, how to work with talent, and how to create usable images with intention.

Why come?

Because “just keep shooting” is not a career plan.

If you want to move forward, you need to understand the paths available, the expectations of the industry, and what steps actually matter. This session is designed to help you cut through the noise and leave with a clearer direction.
