In 2024, we are excited to offer a series of expeditions to Península Valdés in Patagonia, Argentina. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it holds global significance for the conservation of marine mammals. The peninsula is the habitat of a vital breeding population of the endangered Southern Right whale, along with significant breeding populations of southern elephant seals and southern sea lions.

These expeditions are scheduled early in the season to take advantage of the clearer waters and coincide with the birth of Southern Right whales. The encounters will be serene and accessible, primarily conducted through snorkelling/freediving. However, tanks can be utilised if conditions permit.

A 2022 survey documented 1500 whales and 400 newborn calves in the Peninsula Valdés region alone, ensuring abundant sightings and encounters.Southern Right whales, known for their friendly and inquisitive nature, spend a considerable amount of time at the surface. This eliminates the necessity for scuba diving to experience an encounter with them, allowing you to pack light and prioritise luggage space for cameras, lenses, and warm clothing.

Did you know? Right whales were once hunted for their oil and blubber. Their calm and approachable nature made them an easy target, earning them the moniker 'the right whale to kill,' hence their name. Thankfully, those tragic times are over, and these beautiful animals remain as inquisitive as ever. They often approach boats and snorkelers, providing you with the opportunity to have a close and magical encounter with them.

SMALL GROUP EXPERIENCE

The group will have a maximum of 4 guests, and in the water we will rotate not to have more than 2 each time. There will be plenty of whale time, and many photographing and filming opportunities.

WEATHER DAYS - WON'T BE JUST LAZING AROUND

If the weather does not permit being at sea and the port is closed, we will do land based excursions. The peninsula is home to the most wonderful animals so there will be plenty of wildlife and amazing photographic opportunities.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL - This isn't your normal "tourist trip"

For professional photographers, filmmakers and serious experienced amateurs.

COSTS

USD $6,700 per person for the full week. We can arrange addtional nights accomodation etc.
