About the event

Sunset Portrait Photowalk – Melbourne (VIC)

Join Sony Digital Imaging Advocates Eric Peng and Zeeshawn Zafar for an inspiring evening of portrait photography as we explore the streets of Melbourne during the golden hour and into the blue hour.

Presented in partnership with Sony Australia and Croydon Camera House, this guided photowalk combines hands-on access to the latest Sony gear with practical portrait photography education in a real-world urban environment.

We'll begin in the exclusive Sony Suite at Hyde Melbourne Place, a stunning luxury hotel recently awarded a Michelin Key. Participants will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the latest Sony cameras and lenses, including selected Alpha bodies and G Master lenses. Attendees are welcome to try and borrow equipment for the photowalk, subject to availability, while receiving expert advice from Sony specialists and advocates.

Once geared up, we'll head out into the streets of Melbourne to photograph professional models against the backdrop of the city's iconic laneways, architecture, and vibrant city atmosphere. As the sun sets and Melbourne transforms from golden hour to blue hour, Eric and Zeeshawn will share their approach to creating striking street portraits using available light, urban environments, and creative composition techniques.

Topics covered include:

  • Golden hour and blue hour portrait photography
  • Finding and working with natural light
  • Environmental portrait composition
  • Posing and directing subjects on location
  • Using urban architecture and city elements creatively
  • Lens selection for street and portrait photography
  • Camera settings for changing light conditions
  • Storytelling through portraiture
  • Creating dynamic portraits in public spaces

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all experience levels, whether you're looking to improve your portrait photography, learn new techniques, or experience the latest Sony equipment in a practical shooting environment.
