Capture waterfalls, seascapes, lighthouses and astro in The Catlins

About the event

Join me and my special co-host award-winning Sony astrophotographer Laurie Winter for an epic long weekend of landscape and astrophotography adventures in one of NZ's most remote and photogenic locations - The Catlins. Home to endless amazing waterfalls, lighthouse and seascapes there will be an amazing variety of locations to choose from to hone your photography skills while learning many different settings and techniques to improve your results.

Please note the full fee for this workshop is $1,599 NZD - see Fees and Payment below.

Friday 2pm

The workshop will commence at 2pm at the accommodation in Dunedin. If you need a pick up from Dunedin Airport, this will be available at approximately 12pm.

We will have an introduction to the weekend before heading out to shoot sunset at a local beach. We will decide on the exact location on the day based on weather conditions in the area. If the skies are clear we'll stay out to shoot astro at one of the beaches before dinner.

Saturday

Sunrise will be at Hoopers Inlet or another iconic Dunedin coastal location taking in the beautiful swirling seascapes and rock formations in the area.

After breakfast, we head south to The Catlins towards Curio Bay with plenty of stops along the way for photography including  McLean Falls, undoubtedly one of NZ's most impressive waterfalls. There are many opportunities to photograph in this location, both the upper and lower waterfall and the forest along the way - you wont believe the birdsong here!

After an afternoon editing session, we'll head out and shoot sunset and astro at Waipapa Point Lighthouse before returning to Curio Bay for the night.

Sunday

We'll greet the day with sunrise along the wild and windswept Curio Bay headland cliffs, before spending the morning processing our images. Then we'll head north to Kaka Point via Matai Falls and Purakaunui Falls. Sunset will be at the amazing Nugget Point lighthouse before the final astro session of the workshop.

Monday

Our final morning will be spent at Nugget Point lighthouse watching the sun rise over the ocean at one of NZ's most amazing coastal locations. From here we'll pack up and return to Dunedin approx 12pm.

Note: This is an approximate itinerary only and will change based on weather conditions on the day, so it is possible that not all locations listed will be visited.
