Capture high-speed netball and rugby action live at UQ

About the event

Join us at the University of Queensland on September 12th for an immersive, hands-on sports photography workshop. Designed for creators looking to elevate their action photography, this event puts you right on the sidelines of live netball and rugby union matches.

Throughout the day, you will learn how to master fast shutter speeds, leverage Sony’s advanced real-time tracking autofocus, and frame high-energy match play. Whether you are looking to refine your timing, test out gear, or build a standout sports portfolio, you will gain practical tips and guidance in a real-world game environment. Bring your camera, lock in your settings, and capture the intensity of match day at UQ.

Techniques covered

  • Camera Settings for Fast Action: Dialing in high shutter speeds, wide apertures, and custom ISO settings to freeze movement.
  • Sony AI Autofocus & Subject Tracking: Setting up Continuous AF (AF-C), Real-time Tracking, and Eye AF to stay locked on fast-moving players.
  • Panning & Motion Blur: Techniques for panning with moving athletes to convey speed while keeping the subject sharp.
  • Capturing Peak Action & Emotion: Anticipating play, timing shutter releases, and capturing dramatic on-field moments.
  • Sideline Positioning & Framing: How to position yourself relative to field action, isolate players, and compose sports stories.
  • Telephoto & Zoom Lens Choice: Selecting focal lengths to switch effectively between tight netball court action and expansive rugby field play.
