Join me for a ONE LENS photo challenge at Wellington's City to Sea Bridge

About the event

Need a challenge? Our first Wellington Photo Challenge for 2025 is a ONE LENS challenge.

We will spend ~ one hour at one location capturing photos using only one lens. Participants will then go home and edit their favourites and send through their top one or two images. We'll then have a follow-up group Google meet session to review everyone's photos. The photo review will take place on Tuesday evening (18 February 8pm).

Our location for this challenge is the City to Sea Bridge.

Late last year the Wellington City Council announced that they may have to demolish the structure. While this decision has been put on hold, it's a good reminder that nothing last forever... but photographs can!

One lens?!

Yes, this is a challenge for me too. Select a lens that you need to use more or that you're still getting used to. Perhaps it's a wide angle, a large zoom lens, or it could be the kit set lens that came with your camera. This challenge is designed to give you the limitation to spark your creativity.

Techniques covered

  • Working with the gear you have available
  • Composition techniques
  • Exposing for natural and available light
  • Long exposure photography
  • Constructive critique of your work

What to bring

  • One camera
  • One lens (you choose a focal length that will challenge you!)
  • Tripod (not essential)
  • ND filter to fit your chosen lens (not essential)
  • Warm clothes and wet weather gear. This is Wellington after all.
