Accept the mission: challenge yourself with a photowalk at Newtown Festival

About the event

Join me at the Newtown Festival for a photowalk with a twist. You'll be given your own mission card with special instructions to photograph a specific subject, in a particular style, or with a composition type.

We will meet at 9:00am in the St Anne's Church carpark for a mission briefing. Participants will then venture into the Festival where they will have up to two hours to complete their secret assignment. We'll then regroup at 11:00am.

Photographers who successfully complete their mission will be encouraged to publish their top four images in the Sony Alpha New Zealand Facebook group.

There will be a Sony prize pack up for grabs during the photowalk, as well as spot prizes of coffee vouchers valid for our next Wellington coffee meetup.

Techniques covered

  • Tips and settings for street photography
  • Mirrorless camera settings
  • Colour vs black & white photography
  • Being inspired by limitations - that's the mission!

What to bring

  • Your camera with charged batteries and memory card
  • Wide angle lens if you have one available
  • Tripod (not essential)
  • ND filter to fit your chosen lens (not essential)
  • Newtown Festival is a zero waste event, so be sure to bring a backpack and take away any rubbish that you bring in
  • Food money! Trust me, there are always incredible food stalls at the Newtown Festival
