Hi, I am Jay Evans. A Nightscape, Landscape, Nature and Astro Photographer based in the Blue Mountains and also a passionate Tour Guide and Educator.

I love to explore and capture the divsere and breathtaking landscape of the Blue Mountains, and have the enormous pleasure of guiding other photograpers around the area teaching techniques including long exposure, landscape, nature, wildlife and waterfalls. I also love to educate about the natural values and history so they come away with much more than photos, but a deep appreciation for this superlative natural environment.

For over 10 years, I have also been a passionate Astrophotographer, running photo tours and workshops across Australia, teaching photographers of all levels to capture the Milky Way and stars at some iconic Australian locations.

I am an accredited Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park Tour Guide and hold a commercial tour operator license with NSW National Parks and Wildlife, Uluru and Northern Territory Parks.

What is your go to in your Alpha kit and why?

The Epic Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS is that one lens that when all other landscape compositions seem to have evaporated, strapping this fellow onto an Alpha 7R IV gives you options you never thought existed. And the sharpness at 400mm with 61MP resolution allows you to crop right down to the finest details. I never leave home without it now.

Most memorable moment shooting with Alpha?

My 1st BULB Long Exposure using the Alpha 7R III was looking out over Glen Helen Gorge in the Northern Territory on a completely clear night, capturing star trails. After 30 minutes I was completely blown away by the details in the shadows and the colour of the trails captured. It has changed my view on how to capture star trails knowing I can keep power going with an external USB battery.
