About the event
Join me for a free online session on Sony lenses for astrophotography. I've tried them all for photographing the night sky, and they each have their pros and cons. I'll talk you through them and what to use in different scenarios, including the new Sony 8-14mm fisheye.
If you're looking to upgrade, I'll go through the lenses that might be the best options for you. I'll also cover how to get the most out of them in the field: keeping them clean, storing them safely, controlling humidity, and using filters and lens warmers so they keep working through a long night.
I'll finish with the rest of the kit I take out at night. Lighting is a big one, from low-level lighting to head torches, along with tips like having a bag you don't have to put on the ground. I'll mention star trackers and astro-modified cameras as options too, but they're not something I use. If there's time I'll touch on settings, but I'll mainly keep it to choosing and looking after your gear.
The session is casual and relaxed. You're welcome to just watch and listen, or ask questions as we go, and we'll finish with a Q&A. I'm covering the landscape side of my kit in a separate session on Monday 26 October.
