Learn the art of capturing beautiful waterfalls with ND filters

About the event

Learn the best techniques for creating lush waterfall and river scenes at unique Bay of Plenty locations. This event is tailored to learning various composition and setting techniques to improve your waterfall long exposure photography using a polariser and neutral density filters.

We will visit 2 locations during the workshop so you will need transport to get between the two spots.

Please Note: To get the most from this workshop you will need both a polariser AND at least one ND filter (6-stop would be best). If you don't own an ND filter and polariser, please contact me. I will have some filters available to use during the workshop but it is first in, first served. I will also need to know the thread size of the lens you will be using.

Trying Sony Gear: please let me know at least 4 weeks in advance if you would like to try out any camera bodies or lenses and I will try to arrange this for the event.

You will also need a good level of fitness to attend this workshop as the track down to Kaiate Falls is steep with lots of steps.

Techniques covered

  • The art of long exposures for waterfall and river scenes
  • Using a polariser to get the best colour from the scene and reduced reflections
  • Using an ND filter to slow the shutter speed down
  • The art of good composition

What to bring

  • Tripod
  • ND filters and polariser
  • Rain jacket and/or umbrella (in case of bad weather we will still proceed)
  • Gumboots or waterproof shoes (if you want to stand in the water for best composition)
