About the event
Step into the studio for a Fine Art Black & White Photography Workshop led by Chris Bowers, alongside Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Eric Peng. This session is dedicated entirely to the craft and mindset of black and white studio photography, with a strong focus on portraits and florals.
This workshop is about slowing down and seeing light differently. Using Nanlite continuous LED lighting, you’ll explore how contrast, texture, shape, and shadow define an image when colour is stripped away. You’ll learn how to sculpt light intentionally, refine your compositions, and create expressive, fine art images that rely on mood rather than distraction.
Participants will photograph both portraits and floral arrangements, discovering how each subject responds uniquely to light and form in a monochrome environment. Chris and Eric will guide you through creative approaches to lighting, subject interaction, and artistic decision-making, helping you push beyond technical correctness and into visual storytelling.
This is a hands-on, studio-based workshop designed to open up your creativity, challenge how you think about lighting, and encourage a more deliberate, artistic workflow. You’ll leave with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and black and white images suitable for a fine art portfolio.
Held at Kindred Cameras Docklands, this workshop is ideal for photographers looking to explore studio work in a more conceptual, art-driven way—without taking the fun out of the process.
