About the event

Complete your day in the Blue Mountains with a sublime sunset session at Cahill’s Lookout, one of the most spectacular vantage points in Katoomba. As the sun sinks behind the Megalong Valley, Boar’s Head, and Narrow Neck Plateau, we’ll capture breathtaking golden-hour and blue-hour light while refining our landscape photography skills in real-time.

This hands-on session is designed for photographers of all levels – whether you’re just starting out or looking to master the nuances of sunset and twilight photography.


📸 What You’ll Learn

  • 🌅 Mastering Sunset & Blue Hour – Balancing exposure and colour as light shifts from golden tones to twilight hues.

  • 🎛 Advanced Settings & Techniques – Long exposures for movement, bracketing for dynamic skies, and using graduated filters effectively.

  • 🖼 Creative Composition – Leveraging silhouettes, foreground interest, and layering to build dramatic images.

  • 🎒 What to Bring: Camera, wide-angle lens, tripod, extra batteries, memory cards, and warm clothing.

Grade 3 – Short bushwalks (<5km), some inclines, stairs, and uneven terrain.

  • 🔭 Lens Choice – Wide Angle (16–35mm), Telephoto (24–105mm). Longer focal lengths (100–400mm) highly recommended.
  • 🎛 Tripod & Plates/Mounts – Stable support for long exposures.
  • 🎚 Shutter Remote – For sharp, shake-free images.
  • 🔋 Charged Batteries & Empty Memory Cards – Bring spares to keep shooting.
  • 🌅 Landscape Filters – Grad ND and CPL (if you own them).
  • 🎒 Comfortable Camera Backpack – To carry gear safely and easily.

Conditions will vary, but the upper Blue Mountains is generally begins warm and then cools rapidly at sunset, so I recommend dressing in appropriate clothing for changing conditions. Some sessions will require hiking appropriate clothing with good hiking boots preferably with high ankle support.
Yes. Our meeting points will begin close to accessible parking areas. Some parking may be on a meter, so be sure to check where you park if payment is required.
