Join us for an astromeet on the coastline of Bouddi National Park

About the event

Join us for our second Astromeet of the year. This time visiting the exceptional coastal scape of Bouddi National Park on the Central Coast for what, weather permitting, will be an incredible evening exploring Astroscapes along the patterned sandstone cliffs of this geologically stunning location, as the Milky Way rises to the east and the stars provide an amazing backdrop. There are plenty of great compositions to look for around the area, so plenty for everyone to shoot.

While on site, I will go through some basics about safety, etiquette, how to find the Milky Way, how to capture it, how to look for a unique composition and some advanced capture techniques. We will also cover some basic astroscape lighting, especially important to help capture the swirling patterns and layers of the epic sandstone cliffs.

We will shoot the Milky Way and Star Trails through to sunrise.

NOTE: The meeting time is 11:30PM on Friday evening and we will shoot through to early Saturday morning.

Meeting Time: Friday 24th February 2023, 11:30PM

Galactic Core Visible - 00:54 til 05:12

Sunrise - 06:38

Weather Dependent - This is a Weather Dependent event. If heavy rain or storms are forecast we will cancel or postpone the event to a later date. We will still run the event if it is cloudy, as we can have some light painting fun around Putty Beach and the coastal walk if the skies fail to clear for us.

Parking - Once inside Bouddi National Park, park at the end of Putty Beach Road at the eastern most end. Use this pin to navigate to the meeting spot.

Event FAQs (For general FAQs, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page)

Please wear appropriate clothing ensuring you have a warm jacket and beanie. Despite being summer, the ocean front can become bitterly cold at night. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended to protect from mosquitos.
Yes - we park at the end of Putty Beach Road inside Bouddi National Park.
While we will be on hand to help photographers learn how to capture the night sky and the Milky Way, this is not a workshop, more an event to get like minded photographers in a safe group to capture the night sky.
Bouddi Coastal Walk is generally accessible to those with a good degree of mobility with a short 500m walk arcoss the beach from the car park and a few small stairs to climb up. We will be traversing a coastal cliffline which during the night can be deceptive and so a high degree of mobility and self awareness will be necessary.
There are no public transport options available to get to Bouddi National Park. You will need to be self driving or car pooling with others. If you require transport, please contact Jay to discuss options.
