About the event

Astro-Photography Adventure at Bombo Quarry

Step into the magical world of astrophotography with Jay Evans on an unforgettable nightscape shoot. During the early Milky Way season, we embrace our inner night owls, trading sleep for the thrill of capturing stunning celestial images. For those willing to venture into the night, the rewards are truly mind-blowing.

Why Bombo Quarry?

The Bombo Quarry, with its iconic basalt rock columns, feels like an otherworldly landscape—a perfect backdrop for astrophotography. As the Milky Way rises off the eastern coastline, the juxtaposition of the rocky terrain against the night sky creates compositions that are nothing short of extraordinary.

Explore endless opportunities for unique perspectives and creative nightscapes as you navigate this incredible location.

Please wear appropriate clothing ensuring you have a warm jacket and beanie. Despite being summer, the ocean front can become bitterly cold at night. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended to protect from mosquitos.
Yes - we park in the Bombo Headland Car park.
While we will be on hand to help photographers learn how to capture the night sky and the Milky Way, this is not a workshop, more an event to get like minded photographers in a safe group to capture the night sky.
Bombo quarry is generally accessible to anyone with a short 300m walk from the car park and a few small stairs to climb down. The quarry is generally flat to walk around but some areas have uneven boulders that need to be traversed.
Due to the meeting time, it is recommended that you drive, however trains do run to the Bombo railway station, and are a short 1km walk from the meeting point.
