Scene Festival
Tips and practice at lighting earthbound foregrounds in Astrophotography

About the event

Sunset is at 6:20pm for this location's spectacular views over the Barossa. By 7:20pm it should be dark enough for the last view of the core of the Milky Way for this year.

Although aiming for the Wednesday, the exact date will be emailed to you from Sony, as it will mainly depend on the weather forecast, but may be later in the week.

We will do some creative lighting of the surrounding area to add some added value to the earthbound portion of the photos.

NOTE: It's important to bring a light, such as a headlamp or torch as there is no light at the location. The 70-metre bitumen path to the monument is quite steep, followed by 12 steps at the monument. If that is an issue for you, please consider your abilities.

Techniques covered

  • Astrophotography
  • Lighting
  • Landscapes

What to bring

  • Torch (essential, preferably with red LED mode to preserve night vision)
  • Widest angle lens you have, e.g. Sony 14mm f/1.8
  • Tripod
  • Warm clothes, weather dependent
