About the event
Black-and-white photography is its own language. Separate from colour, it’s a poetry of light, tone, and texture. This workshop gives you the foundations and workflow for making striking monochrome images starting from colour or from black-and-white. And you’ll be able to use any editing software.
We'll use the tried-and-tested formula of: learn stuff in the morning, embed the learning with practical exercises in the afternoon.
What You’ll Learn:
- The essential principles behind great B&W conversion
- How colour channels influence grayscale tones
- Building a tonal foundation for impact and depth: Levels and Curves
- Practical order of operations for best quality and efficiency
- Dodging, burning, and local contrast control for subject emphasis
- Adapting your workflow for print, web, or archival
Ideal For:
- Photographers wanting to refine their monochrome work
- Colour shooters curious about B&W’s creative potential
- Anyone who wants a clear, repeatable workflow
Format:
- Clear explanations
- Real-world examples
- Guided practice (bring your own images to try each technique yourself on your laptop with your favourite software)
Why It’s Different:
This workshop is app agnostic — no step-by-step tied to one program. Instead, you’ll gain a transferable skillset that works whether you edit in Lightroom, Capture One, Affinity, Photoshop, or anything else.

First four bookings receive a $20 Photogear voucher each.
