Help monitor critically endangered sharks with photo-identification

About the event

Learn more about underwater photography, and help monitor critically endangered grey nurse sharks!

A large proportion of pregnant grey nurse sharks over-winter at Wolf Rock, one of the world's top shark dives. We'll be doing double dives with Wolf Rock Dive, based near Rainbow Beach, to see and photograph them to help monitor their population.

These dives will be hosted, guided, and booked directly with Wolf Rock Dive.

Booking steps:

  1. Send Wolf Rock Dive an email directly to confirm availability (info@wolfrockdive.com.au).
  2. Register here on Sony Scene (AU$20 deposit).
  3. Go directly to https://wolfrockdivecentre.rezdy.com/344003/double-dive-charter-for-advanced-divers-and-above to complete your booking (AU$300).
  4. Enter 'DIVE WITH SIMON' in your booking notes.

Your host, Sony Digital Imaging Advocate and shark scientist Dr Simon Pierce, is a world expert on shark photo-identification and protecting ocean wildlife. He's the Executive Director of the Marine Megafauna Foundation, an Adjunct Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast, and Research Manager for the Spot A Shark community science initiative for grey nurse sharks in Australia.

As the sharks will likely be at 18 metres depth or more, these dives will be suited for advanced divers or above, and we will be diving on 30% nitrox. If you are not yet certified for nitrox dives, you can register for the course with the dive centre and complete the necessary materials before the day. The aim is to have a group of experienced divers to focus on shark photography (while of course enjoying one of the world's top dives).

Simon has made 4 dates available to start with – if you have a group of 2–4 people and would like to join him on another day (before June 21st), let Wolf Rock Dive know and they can likely set it up.

All bookings are subject to Wolf Rock Dive terms and conditions.
