About the event
Experience a night under one of South Australia’s most stunning dark skies as we photograph the rising Milky Way over the Barossa Valley. This workshop blends hands-on field instruction with creative composition techniques to help you walk away with iconic nightscape images. You’ll be guided by award-winning landscape astrophotographer Will Godward, with personalised tips on camera settings, focus, composition, and workflow

Techniques covered
- How to set up your camera for night sky shooting
- Manual exposure settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) for Milky Way photography
- Focusing reliably in the dark
- Planning and finding the Milky Way Galaxy Core using apps and astronomical tools
- Long exposure techniques and rule of 500/300/NPF for sharp stars
- Composition of nightscapes with foregrounds and the Milky Way
- Tips on using a star tracker (optional) for deep sky detail
What to bring
- DSLR or Mirrorless camera capable of manual exposure
- Wide-angle lens (e.g., 14–24mm) with fast aperture (f/2.8–f/4)
- Sturdy tripod
- Remote shutter release or intervalometer
- Headlamp/torch with red light mode (important for dark adaptation)
- Extra batteries and memory cards
- Warm clothing and sturdy walking shoes
- Snacks and water
- Optional: star tracker (for advanced participants)
