About the event
Join Rachel Hadfield and John Colthorpe for an action-packed mountain bike photography and videography workshop in the beautiful Whakarewarewa Forest.
The day will kick off with a workshop at the Secret Spot.
We’ll explore what changes when you leave the world of 5 frames per second and step into 25 frames per second - learning how to think, frame, and move like a filmmaker.
Across the day you’ll learn:
How to adapt your photo gear for motion capture
Shutter speeds, frame rates, and focus techniques for dynamic scenes
How to move with your subject and use natural light for cinematic effect
Building simple sequences that tell a story through movement
All the elements that need to come together to create a winning image
Best practices for camera settings in fast-paced action, panning, and portraiture
Shoot preparation and creating meaningful relationships in the industry.
After the morning workshops, we’ll have lunch together before heading into the forest for a practical shoot.
This workshop will have takeaways for all skill levels but is aimed at beginner to intermediate shooters who want to further develop their skills. It’s also ideal for photographers or content creators keen to get into video.
For the shoot, we’ll be riding grade 3 trails, but even if you don’t have a bike, the first portion of the shoot will be accessible on foot.
