About the event
Overview
Join me and fellow Sony photographer Andrew Francombe for a journey through the Mackenzie Country (Tekapo, Twizel, Mt Cook, Omarama, Lindis Pass, Ohau) exploring the grand mountain landscapes and lakes, with a backdrop of lupins and wildflowers along the way. We'll teach you how to capture and edit great images with striking compositions that incorporate both foreground and background elements in one of New Zealand's most photogenic regions. A sunrise scenic flight will also be available during our stay to capture the awesome mountain vistas of the Southern Alps.

Friday 10am/3pm
The workshop will officially commence at 3pm at Braemar Station. However, if you need a pick up from Christchurch Airport, this will be available at approximately 10am.
We will have an introduction to the weekend before heading out to shoot sunset at Lake Pukaki.
Saturday/Sunday
Over the course of the weekend we will explore and photograph the Mackenzie Region looking gorgeous at this time of year with a backdrop of wildflowers: lupins, daisies and more!
On one of the mornings we will take to the skies to explore the area with a 45 minute scenic flight over the mountains during sunrise and golden hour with Air Safaris.
We will also incorporate two editing sessions during the weekend to maximise your knowledge and learning of the best post-processing techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop.
The exact locations visited will depend on both weather conditions and where the best displays of colour are, which changes every year.
Note: we will schedule in some free time for rest on both days before/after the editing sessions due to the very long daylight hours at this time of year (4-4.30am starts and 10-10.30pm finish)
Monday
After a final sunrise session and group breakfast in Tekapo, the workshop will conclude at approximately 10am for a 2pm return at Christchurch Airport.
Note: This is an approximate itinerary only and will change based on weather conditions on the day, so it is possible that not all locations listed will be visited.
Additional Workshop Info
- Accommodation will be single share at Braemar Station (we have 2 cottages booked)
- As we aren't based in a town, you will need to bring some food and snacks for the workshop, more info will be provided closer to the time.

Fees and Payment
- The full workshop fee is $1,799 NZD which includes the sunrise scenic flight.
- A deposit of $499 is required to be paid via Sony Scene to secure your place for this event
- The remaining $1,300 is to be paid no later than 60 days prior to the event (26 September 2021) and is payable to Meghan Maloney Photography via bank transfer or credit card (3% surcharge applies)

What to bring
- Camera and lenses (both a wide angle lens as well as a zoom lens)
- STURDY tripod - very important to ensure sharp focus in windy conditions
- Torch or head torch
- Spare batteries and charger (we go through a lot of batteries in one day sometimes without stopping anywhere to charge them)
- Laptop and a way to connect your memory cards
- Remote shutter control if you have one
- Neutral density filters (if you own these - a selection will be available to borrow during the weekend)
- Wet weather and warm gear (waterproof jacket, hiking boots, a small umbrella or waterproof camera sleeve, hat and gloves)
- Food (a list of which meals you need to cover will be provided)
- A willingness to learn and a sense of fun and adventure!
