Sunset Meetup: Kunanyi / Mount Wellington, Hobart

Come join fellow photographers for a relaxed sunset meetup on the summit of Kunanyi / Mount Wellington, Hobart's mountain. Sunset is at about 7:50pm on this day. We'll meet from 7:00pm, giving us time to find compositions before the light peaks, then shoot through to 8:30pm as the city lights come on through blue hour.

From the summit, Hobart and the Derwent estuary are spread out below, and the light changes fast as the sun drops. It's a great spot to photograph the sunset into blue hour, and to try long exposures as the lights of the city come on. Bring your widest lenses and a tripod and make an evening of it.

Please note: this is not a tutorial or workshop, just an opportunity for photographers to gather together and practise their craft. Whilst this event is listed on the Sony Scene platform, all photographers are welcome, no matter what brand of camera you intend to bring.

The summit is high, cold and exposed, even in late October, so check the forecast and pack warm layers. If the mountain weather is looking poor, we'll shift to the Tasman Bridge Lookout on the eastern shore of Hobart, looking across the bridge towards the mountain, which is a great spot for long exposures too. I'll let everyone know the day before which spot we're likely heading to, then confirm on the day by 3pm at the latest, once I've seen the latest Bureau of Meteorology forecast. Updates come by SMS and email, so keep an eye on your phone on the day in case of a last-minute change.
