About the event
Join Jay Evans for an immersive evening photo walk through the vibrant streets of Sydney. This hands-on experience is designed for photographers of all levels looking to enhance their handheld low-light photography skills using the dynamic cityscape as their creative playground.
Timed to run alongside Sydney’s iconic Vivid Festival, this is not a Vivid-affiliated event—but we’ll take full advantage of the colourful lighting installations and illuminated architecture that make the city come alive at night.
A key highlight of this workshop is the opportunity to get hands-on with the powerful new Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G lens—a lightweight, ultra-wide prime designed specifically for low-light and handheld shooting. With expert guidance and access to professional gear, you'll learn to capture compelling night scenes, street moments, and abstract compositions without the need for a tripod.
🎯What We Will Do
We’ll spend the evening walking through some of Sydney’s most visually engaging precincts, exploring composition and technique as we go. Our route includes:
- Circular Quay – Harbour lights and city skyline reflections
- Dawes Point – Historical architecture and moody shadows
- Barangaroo – Vibrant installations, towering skyscrapers and modern streetscapes
- Observatory Hill - Epic views of the Harbour Bridge and city skyline
- The Rocks - Historic laneways with a touch of Vivid
Throughout the night, we’ll focus on:
- 📷 Mastering handheld low-light shooting techniques
- 🏙️ Composing strong cityscape and streetscape images
- 🚶♂️ Capturing candid street moments and abstract visuals
- 🔍 Making the most of the Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G’s performance in real-world settings
Jay will guide participants with live demonstrations, tips on camera settings, and feedback on the go.
