Learn to master long exposures for smooth water and dynamic seascapes

About the event

Join Luke Tscharke and representatives from Sony Australia for a Long Exposure Photography Workshop on Saturday, 5 October 2024. This hands-on session will focus on mastering the art of long exposure photography, allowing you to create stunning images with smooth water, dynamic skies, and motion blur effects in camera. Long exposures are a fun and creative way to create peaceful and dramatic images that really catch the viewer's attention.

We’ll start our workshop at Pricilla Park next to Mortimer Bay on South Arm Peninsula. We will shoot the amazing 'Fence to Nowhere' practicing our long exposure techniques. From there, we’ll jump in our cars and explore other nearby locations on the South Arm Peninsula, giving you the chance to practice your skills in a variety of settings.

The long exposure workshop is part of a full day of Sony Scene activities:

Saturday October 5th 2024

Event Partners & Equipment

This event is run in conjunction with Stallard’s Camera House in Hobart. There will be some Sony loan equipment available for you to try, thanks to Sony Australia. It’s a great opportunity to shoot with that camera or lens you've always wanted to try.

ND Filters are Essential

We highly recommend participants bring one or more of the following filters as these are essential for long exposure photography during daytime hours. Please ensure the filter can attach to your lens without vignetting.

  • 6 stop ND filter
  • 10 stop ND filter
  • 15 stop ND filter

There will be a very small selection of ND filters available to loan, however it's always best to learn using your own equipment.

For those looking to purchase ND filters before the workshop, feel free to reach out to Stallards Camera House Hobart for advice on suitable options or Luke via the link here. For long exposures during this time of day, we recommend using 10 or 15 stop filters and advise against using variable ND filters, as they may not perform as well with wide angle lens still photography.

*All camera brands are welcome: Even though this workshop is booked via Sony Scene all camera brands are most welcome on this workshop.
