Learn how to capture long exposures at two amazing Waikato locations

About the event

Join me for an afternoon and evening exploring two of the Waikato's best landscape locations: Bridal Veil Falls and Raglan's beaches.

We'll meet at 4.30pm at Bridal Veil Falls and spend an hour or so here shooting this beautiful waterfall in the late afternoon light. From here we'll move onto Raglan and shoot sunset either at the main Ngarunui Beach or one of the smaller surf beaches around the coast depending on weather conditions on the day.

This event is tailored to learning various composition and setting techniques to improve your waterfall and seascape photography and is limited to only 6 people to maximise the learning opportunities. Neutral density filters will also be available for you to use during the workshop if you don't own any.

A pick up will be available from central Hamilton if required (please contact me below).

Please note: you don't have to shoot with Sony equipment to attend the workshop, but if you are interested in trying out any Sony gear, please let me know me so I can arrange this for the evening.

Also consider signing up to my online courses: Creating Art in Landscapes with Long Exposures on Feb 15th prior to attending this event so you can hit the ground running on the day, and my Learn to Love Lightroom Course which will be on March 15th and March 22nd to help you achieve the best results from editing the shots you'll be taking during the workshop.

In the event of bad weather, this event will be postponed to the following day so please keep both Saturday and Sunday nights free. A refund will only be available in the event that both nights are cancelled.

Techniques covered

  • Best camera settings and equipment for shooting waterfalls and seascapes
  • Which neutral density filters to use in different circumstances
  • How to compose and focus for the best results
  • Calculating the correct shutter speed when using filters
  • Using the histogram to correctly expose the scene

What to bring

  • Camera and lenses (ideally a wide angle lens)
  • Plenty of batteries
  • Tripod (please email me if you need to borrow a tripod, I have one spare)
  • Remote shutter control if you have one
  • Comfortable shoes for walking at the waterfall, potentially separate footwear that you don't mind getting wet at the beach among the waves and rocks
  • Neutral density filters (please email me beforehand if you need to borrow a set)
  • Water and snacks as we'll be shooting over dinner time

Event FAQs (For general FAQs, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page)

No, we'll be maximising our shooting time so please bring some snacks to see you through dinner!
There will be parking available at both locations. Alternatively you are welcome to get a ride to the workshop with me from Hamilton.
Please ensure your fitness and mobility will be comfortable with walking down a steep incline at the beach, down several steep sets of stairs (Bridal Veil Falls) and possibly balancing on rocks to shoot at the beach.
Please contact me on photos@meghanmaloneyphotography.co.nz if you need to borrow filters or a tripod or you have any other questions about the event.
